PIREP - Stark AvionicsAs numerous of you, I appreciate pireps from those of you with exposure to shops you employ (bad or good) and prefer to pass on my experience for your consideration of others too. After a so-so experience during a recent avionics install, I discovered myself looking for an alternate avenue to the installation of a brand new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The tariff of one was high that I actually busted out laughing over the phone as though I were at the comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused while i. I was telling the story of my local quote to some friend on the airport and that he recommended i call John Stark at Stark Avionics for a quote. In doing my homework before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps for the shop. In doing so, I came across a truly terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you would like to see it). This pirep caused me serious worry about whether or not to call Stark for any quote.
I posted a general query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and i also spoke in reference to his exposure to Stark and I chose to give John a call based on the two recommendations I from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns amongst the negative pirep on MS has I was gun shy depending on the previous experience. As they always say, there are two sides to each story and John took his time for you to explain his side in my opinion much like me certain he'll be willing to apply someone else who would like to phone him in that regard. Our conversation shifted in the pirep to pricing. John and i also discussed different equipment options, an amount work best with my needs/wants and also the flat fee installed price for each and every option. We ultimately thought we would install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted us a soft price, but was beforehand that this number could be slightly higher when the tray was riveted in (as numerous Mooneys are). I attended edinburgh airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were attached with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in an exceedingly timely manner and confirmed the flat rate price for your equipment and install in some recoverable format and that we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane was to be dropped off the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said although have all the feaures ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in case there was some snags on the way.
